Trust Me, This

We’re officially entering peak party season, and with invitations coming at you from all angles, balancing your December calendar can at times feel like a fine art. Whilst a brimming calendar can take its toll, it’s not without its delights, and I wouldn’t be a fashion writer if I didn’t count event season styling as one of the greatest delights there is.

This season we’ve been treated to a wealth of party styling inspiration. With influencers donning fluffy faux feathers and rosettes across our For You pages, and celebrities styling velvets and sparkles on red carpets around the world—I’m newly brimming with ideas and eager to get styling.

Having honed an eye for new season trends, I’m excited to report that this party season is about the sparkle. Whilst high street and designer retailers have treated us to sparkles en mass this year, it is specifically the sequin skirt that I am most interested in shopping this season.

You could argue that sequins skirts have felt “dated” for the past few seasons, replaced instead with sleek jeans and pretty dresses. However, thanks to a few clever styling tweaks, they feel fresh again. Plucking a beloved Gen Z styling tip, this year I’m planning my outfits around the “fun trousers and basic top formula”— but, with a party-season twist. Opting for a sequin clad skirt as the funner alternative to a silky dress or wide-leg trousers, I’ll be wearing mine with fine knit jumper, a simple tee or a satin blouse all season long.

For its inherently playful silhouette, the sequin skirt is the new season party trend you’ll find me in all season. From maxis to minis, light up the dance floor my edit of the best sequin skirts to buy now.
