Butter French Pedis Are Here to Stay—This Is How Fashion People Make Them Feel Fresh in 2026

You’re not imagining it: French pedicures are sweeping the summer trend cycle with celebrities (hi, Kylie!) and pro nail artists cosigning Frenchies of all kinds. Chrome! Pink! Spicy red! There are dozens of ways to dress up your toes this season, but in my humble opinion, none are more stylish than the creamy “butter French.”

I can practically hear the collective groan through my computer screen. Isn’t butter yellow a bit basic at this point? Sure, the hue has essentially reached neutral status (an “almost neutral,” it flatters all skin tones and nail shapes), but trust me, a butter French pedicure has a fresh, 2026 edge, especially when you heed a few fashion-forward tweaks. Take a scroll through the manicurist-backed inspiration below, and then try to tell me you’re not the least bit influenced. I’ll be waiting!

What Is a Butter French Pedi?

I know, I know, it’s pretty self-explanatory: Simply select a butter-yellow polish for your next French pedicure, and there you have it—a delicious “butter French.” Feel free to layer it on top of a pale pink polish or stick to a milky white base. Both sheer options will look incredibly elevated, although the former does have a slightly more playful, summery feel.

That said, the specific shade of yellow is important to consider. The chicest butter French pedis I’ve seen have either a creamy, almost-white shade of pale yellow or a slightly more golden hue (think honey butter, like in the photo above). No matter which side of the spectrum you lean towards, you’ll be left with a pedicure that suits every shoe pairing and outfit. Take it from celebrity manicurist Gina Edwards, who previously assured me that butter yellow is “fresh, flattering, and surprisingly wearable” for summer 2026.

How to Update It for 2026

Now, this all being said, I do understand the chatter that butter yellow is a tad basic. I’d rather call it classic, but if you’re tired of simple stick-of-butter nails, rest assured that you can update the butter French pedi for summer 2026 looks. Tip number one: Stick to a “baby” line. While French pedicures are delightfully retro, a thin stripe keeps the overall look from feeling too Y2K, when a chunky French tip was all the rage. There’s also something about a micro French that feels so elegant and sophisticated, especially when you toss a butter-yellow polish into the mix. Celebrity pedicurist Milly Mason’s butter pedi (pictured above) is the perfect example—color-coordinating sandals optional but highly recommended.

On the flip-side, you could actually amp up the 2000s nostalgia by committing to a square-shaped pedicure. It’s no secret that square nails are seeing a chic 2026 resurgence (2006 is the new 2026, as they say!), and a square-shaped butter French pedicure is the perfect way to hop on the bandwagon without appearing too “dated.” For inspiration, look no further than the baby-yellow creation below from Russian manicure and pedicure expert Natalia Bulat, and shop all the comparable shades below.
