This year working at home, I have been alternating between two pairs of shoes: my sparkly Ugg slippers and my Marks and Spencer ballet pumps that I’d argue are just as comfortable as the former. I’ve found myself wearing my ballet flats in working hours in an effort to “still get dressed” in the mornings without compromising on comfort.
When it comes to flats, there are certain styles that are comfortable but still have the same chuck-on appeal of an old pair of slippers. Admittedly, several of the pairs on this list will require a period for breaking in, but once you have softened the leather on your loafers and your feet have adjusted, they’ll be shoes you can walk 10,000 steps in—or from your desk to the kettle and back.

My £35 M&S shoes are without a doubt the comfiest things I’ve ever put on my feet (I have three pairs), and I’ve also included some favourites at the higher end, such as Proenza Shouler’s collaboration with Birkenstock and Gucci’s iconic loafers.
