As Seen In NYC—The Color Trend Everyone Is Wearing Instead of Black

The song might be, Mellow Yellow, but NYC’s fashion set can’t stop singing the praises of butter yellow this summer. The color trend has been at the forefront since last year when it was seen on Chanel, Toteme and Chloe’s runways, to name a few. While we typically think of butter yellow as being a softer shade, the NYC crowd is taking a broader approach to the trend, donning more saturated yellows that pack a punch in addition to pastels. There’s no one way to wear the color, either. Telsha Anderson-Boone recently hit the streets in a yellow and brown polka dot skirt with a matching bandana, while Yusra Siddiqui paired a yellow t-shirt with track pants and a button down for everyday.

Coming on the heels of the ‘pop of red’ craze, butter yellow is equally as appealing when worn on a sweater tied around the waist, in sneaker form or all over a tote bag. Just in case you’re inclined to think of the trend as too fleeting, might I remind you of the yellow dress Michele Williams wore alongside Heath Ledger to the 2006 Oscars? Twenty years later, it continues to be one of my all-time favorite red carpet looks.

Below, 29 butter yellow items the NYC fashion set would surely approve of.
