Bianca Andreescu retires from Miami Open after suffering injury in fourth round match

Canada’s Bianca Andreescu was forced to retire from her Round of 16 match at the Miami Open after suffering an apparent ankle injury.

Facing off against Ekaterina Alexandrovaat, the 22-year-old fell after trying to run down the ball during the third game of the second set.

Andreescu could immediately be heard crying and even exclaiming at one point, “I’ve never felt this kind of pain before.” She received medical attention and was taken off the court in a wheelchair.

Alexandrovaat advances on to the tournament’s quarterfinals after a final score of 7-6 (0), 0-2 ret.
