Chic Tailoring, Flat Shoes and Elevated Knits: What Luxury Looks Like for Autumn

Here at Who What Wear, we’re big believers in high-low dressing. What we mean by that is spending money on our wardrobes wisely—investing in quality, luxury buys where it counts and bolstering our everyday wardrobes with more affordable winners. Yes, we can see the benefits of owning a beautiful designer handbag or show-stopping dress that has longevity and versatility, but we also know that Arket does the best white shirts in the business.

Of course, we appreciate that it is a luxury in itself to be in a position to spend on new season clothes at all, let alone save up for or splurge on designer buys. But if you are in a position to invest in your wardrobe, generally we know buying less, better quality items is a key factor in having an overall more responsible approach to fashion. Interspersing even just one or two key luxury buys into your wardrobe can not only mean cherishing those pieces more and for longer, but can also really elevate those more affordable buys too.

Where and what we all choose to spend our money on will obviously differ depending on each individual’s lifestyle and personal taste—someone may enjoy wearing Valentino’s bold pink platforms every day, and someone else may get more wear out of The Row’s flat black ankle boots. In general, though, at Who What Wear, when we’re browsing the new season luxury drops, we do tend to lean more towards investing in classic items—those that don’t play into trends or It buys so that you can be more confident you’ll want to wear them for longer.

Once you’ve decided you’d like to invest in some key luxury buys, it can be hard to know which items are truly worth the splurge. So, below we’ve done the ‘hard’ work for you, scrolling through the new-in sections of our favourite luxury retailers (someone has to do it) and rounding up the best new season designer buys to invest in now. Whether you’re looking to buy or simply use this list as inspiration for finding similar, more affordable items,  keep scrolling to see more now…

Demellier just launched on Net-A-Porter, making it the new name to know for mid-price but luxurious handbags.

You simply can’t go wrong. A Max Mara camel coat is timeless in every sense.

Heavenly.

This will elevate any simple jeans outfit.

A piece you’ll wear forever.

The coat is beautiful, but the wrap around scarf is the perfect finishing touch.

The T-Lock is the bag every fashion person wants right now.

It’s the season of the mary jane ballet flat.

So elegant.

Black leather knee high boots are an autumn/winter capsule staple. These will never date.

I know I would live in this jumper dress all season long.

The perfect trench coat, back in stock.

I just want to snuggle it.

These make leggings look so polished.

I have this and can confirm it is so buttery soft.

Red is undoubtedly the luxury colour of the season.

Chocolate brown is coming in a close second, though,

A classic pair of elegant black trousers.

You’ll pull this jumper out year after year.

Just add red accessories to modernise your look for the season ahead.

I love these paired with a crisp white shirt.

Toteme’s famous shearling coat is back for another year, and just as desirable as ever.

I adore the two tone colours on this.

So heavenly to wrap yourself up in.

Clutch bags are back in a big way.

Add a black blazer and you’ve got a perfect outfit for autumn and winter weddings, as well as party season.

I have a hunch we’ll be seeing wedge heels like this a lot.

Add this to any outfit to elevate it.

The perfect knit.

So elegant with jeans or tailored trousers.

Obsessed.

Beaded necklaces aren’t just for summer.

I’m powerless before a Khaite knit.
