Cowboy Boots Can Be Tricky to Style—7 Spring Outfits That Make It So Easy

Cowboy boots are a thing again, though I’d argue that they’ve never been as “in” as they are right now. Between appearing in the collections of Saint Laurent and Celine to being worn by the likes of Emily Ratajkowski and Sienna Miller, I think it is safe to stay that cowboy boots are sticking around fr spring/summer 2023. I fully appreciate that they’re not exactly the shrinking violets of the shoe-and-boot family, so I understand if you find cowboy boots a little too costume-like for your taste. But there are also plenty of styles to be found that offer a subtler nod to Western-inspired styling via a Cuban heel or embroidered stitching. I personally think you can’t go wrong with a classic black leather pair, which is sure to go with everything you own.

There has been no end to the cowboy-boot outfit inspiration on Instagram this season, and of course, I’ve been making a mental note of each one. You’ve got the likes of Megan Adelaide Vega embracing the trend with a sleek grey blazer, white vest, and sleek black boots, and then Chrissy Ruthford similarly keeping her outfit simple but allowing her statement-making boots to breathe new life into her jeans. Style Notes: Megan Adelaide always offers up the coolest low-effort but high-impact pairings. Take a blazer, vest top, miniskirt, and cowboy boots, and you’re good to go.

Style Notes: Boot-cut jeans were made for the very purpose of, well, being worn over boots, so they make for a no-brainer solution for any cowboy boot-based fit. As far as your top is concerned, flannel feels most fitting for this pairing.

Style Notes:  Why not combine cowboy boots with one of the hottest dress trends of the season, the basic tube. I love how Rae has also worked on-trend Barbie pink into the equation with her mini.

Style Notes: Take a straight-cut or skinny pair of jeans and tuck them into your boots for an easy outfit you’ll come back to throughout the colder months. A checked blazer completes the aesthetic.

Style Notes: This is one of the easiest, and yet coolest, spring looks we’ve seen. Grace pairs her dungarees with a floral quilted jacket and black ankle cowboy boots. No doubt I’ll be wearing this exact look this weekend…

Style Notes: A pair of brightly coloured shoes is an easy way to liven up your wardrobe basics and otherwise muted ensembles, just as April has done here with her red pair.

Style Notes: When you don’t know what to wear, you can’t go wrong with a monochrome look. Lauren’s outfit is the perfect fit for transitioning from winter to spring.
