Fashion People Will Live In These 9 Specific Jeans Trends In 2024

Jeans are the bedrock of my favourite outfits, but that hasn’t always been the case. I remember when skinny jeans dominated the market for what felt like years and, feeling like they didn’t suit me, I swore off of them for years. However, in the last half decade or so, jeans trends have come into their own, with more cuts, lengths and colours to choose from than ever. For me, I’ve been converted into wearing them thanks to the straight-leg and loose-fit styles that make me feel good about my figure, and reclaiming the joy in wearing jeans has made me all the more adventurous—now, I’m willing to give any style a whirl.

From crisp white shirts and loafers to a blazer layered over a bra top and heels, jeans are my go-to for almost every occasion. In fact, as 90% of the outfits I wear between September and March will involve a pair of jeans, I can always justify treating myself to a new pair at this time in the year. But which to choose?

To help me break down the options, I set out to discover the top jeans trends of 2024. What did I find? That are nine types of jeans that are starting to bubble up in popularity. From washes and distressing to statement embellishment and exaggerated hemlines, scroll on to see the seven jean trends for 2024 that will make your outfits feel current all year long.

Style Notes: Anyone who wore extra-long jeans in there teens (read: me!) will tell you that these are not the trousers you want to wear when there’s rain forecast. On dry days, however, there’s no denying that puddle jeans look cool.

Finished hems give this trend extra gloss.

The patch pockets are a nice touch.

Style Notes: Not just for spring/summer, soft, cream-toned jeans work year-round (I like wearing mine with a black leather jacket for a contrast). Prevalent on the Proenza Schouler and MSGM, you can expect to see this jeans trend ramp up as we head into 2024.

Toteme has really upped its denim game this year.

These jeans come in an extended size range.

Style Notes: Whether you take a long pair and DIY them or you opt for a pre-cuffed option, I’m seeing more and more influencers wearing (and designers creating) turn-up jeans. Coincidence? In fashion, there’s no such thing.

Black jeans are never “out”.

A cropped pair will look cute worn with calf boots or loafers.

Style Notes: Silver trousers have been one of the dominating trends this season and now, we can expect to see them transition into every day attire by way of jean-type fabrics and silhouettes. Give them a go—I have a feeling you’ll be surprised at just how much you like them.

I just know these will fly.

While you can have your jeans taken up, I love seeing them styled long over heels.

Style Notes: They exude French appeal and tap into the ’70s aesthetic which has been at the heart of fashions for a few seasons now; if you’re yet to embrace flares, consider 2024 the perfect year to do so.

If you’re looking to invest in some flares, Frame Le High pair is where its at.

These come in a handful of washes.

Style Notes: Pale, vintage-type washes have dominated the jeans space for some time but now, we’re seeing more of an appreciation for the deep blue pairs; shades reminiscent of what your dad might pick. Keep your silhouettes loose and relaxed for a modern take on what otherwise be “dated”-looking denim.

How great is this outfit as a whole?

This look has “Parisian” written all over it.

Style Notes: Love them or hate them, ripped jeans are everywhere right now, and I’m willing to bet that’s going to be the case for much of 2024, too. For the sleekest possible take, look for clean rips to the knee as opposed to distressing all over.

Just add your chunkiest knit and favourite boots.

A bargain find!

Style Notes: Mooching around the recent spring/summer press days, our fashion editor, Remy Farrell, was surprised at the sheer volume of grey jeans on display. You may wish to take that as your cue to invest in pair pronto.

How striking are these grey jeans with black suede boots?

An prime example of how to dress yours up.

Style Notes: Once you notice a trend, you start seeing it everywhere, and that’s definitely the case where overly-seamed jeans are concerned. From twisted panels to adding in seams just for the sake of it, this is one jeans trend I didn’t expect to see take of for 2024 (though it’s also one that’s growing on me).

So cool.

Barrel-leg jeans always look directional.
