Playfulness and curiosity: cats are curious animals, and a cardboard box provides an opportunity for them to explore and play. Marking their territory: cats have scent glands on their paws and rub their faces against objects to mark their territory. A cardboard box can become a cat’s territory. Making the cardboard box looking like a funny fort has just an extra amusement value for humans. Cats don’t care about that.
