I Always Go Back To This Skirt Trend—6 Ways I'm Wearing It This Autumn

Big statement incoming: leather is a staple in my wardrobe. There are a few reasons for this. Firstly, leather often looks better with age, meaning it is a great fabrication to invest in and bring out year after year. Secondly, there is always a great choice of leather pieces out there, whether that’s skirts or shirts, jackets or trousers. And there’s always something for every price point. But today I am here to talk about just one of these styles and that’s leather skirts.

Leather, just like denim, can really anchor your wardrobe and is a great foundation piece that you can style in so many ways. From broderie anglaise in the summer to a chunky mohair knit in the autumn, you might be surprised with what leather can be paired with, and mixing textures and fabrics together often lends a more premium edge to your look.

When it comes to leather skirt outfits, think about your proportions and what you want to draw attention to. If you have your eye on a leather midi skirt, try styling it with a cropped silhouette or tuck in a blouse or knit to cinch in your waist. On the other hand, an oversized sweater and chunky boots always balance out a short skirt option.

From the classic black version to shiny faux leather, when it comes to the offering of leather skirts, the choice is endless. Look out for pleats, zip detail mini skirts, split fronts and interesting details like flattering wrap tie waists. Of course there are some faux and vintage options in my edit; I always try to bring you a selection that features sustainable options, too.

Thankfully, it isn’t just me who is obsessed with a leather skirt. Plenty of our favourite influencers are also tapping into the skirt trend, offering us tons of inspo on new and stylish ways to wear ours this autumn. Style Notes: Ease yourself into Autumn with a white leather, paired with a statement abstract knit to keep the vibe edgy.

& Other Stories does the best knitwear and this jumper proves that.

Founded by stylist Celine Aagaard, Envelope 1976 might just be my new favourite brand.

I can’t believe these are high street! Get ready to strut in these block heel beauties.

Style Notes: Move over double denim, we’re now team double leather all the way. This is a perfect lesson in how to do layering well; note the skinny rib roll neck Basma has paired with her wrap skirt and leather trench.

You can always rely on Arket for the classics.

This fully lined leather trench coat is what dreams are made of.

If you’re looking for a super flattering fit, look no further. The wrap detail and side fasten ensures a smooth silhouette

I can vouch for how comfortable these are.

Style Notes: It’s the combo of the slouchy knit and the midi proportions of the skirt that does it for me. I just love this look. If you’re not a fan of a chunky boot or would prefer to show more skin, try it with a ballet pump or a loafer.

I always try to buy my cable knit sweaters second hand; the vintage ones are always the best.

This is as buttery soft as you would expect.

Missoma and it’s responsibly made pieces are forever on my wish list.

Wearing black and navy together is something I do all.the.time. It just screams chic and easy way to elevate a otherwise simple outfit.

A definite wardrobe hero. Wear with everything from denim and a blazer to layered underneath dresses.

Sometimes the most simple items are hard to find. You can thank me later for this one.

Once you start wearing silk scarves you can’t stop. Style it as seen here on Anna around the neck, on your wrist or even on a bag.

Rely on a chunky platform Mary Jane to add French-girl chic to any outfit.

Style Notes: When you want to inject some fun into your look a pop of colour is perfect. The lime green against the tan is divine and such a great combo. Colours like red, cobalt blue and purple would also look fabulous against tan leather.

Crop tops aren’t just for summer! The puff sleeves, the cropped silhouette, the tie detail… I am obsessed.

Swish straight into Autumn with this pleated brown leather skirt.

Made in Italy and with polished gold hardware.

Style Notes: Goodbye slip skirt, there’s a new black midi in town. Say hello to the black leather skirt, which I for one can’t get enough of. Note how Slyvie has paired her midi with a white tee shirt, knee-high boots and a denim jacket, showing us how leather is the perfect fabrication for a day-to-evening look.

I love the fact that this version is made from organic and recycled cotton.

Not a fan of real leather? Try this faux leather option instead.

The chunky block heel ticks the comfort box, plus these go from size 2-9.
