I Always Turn to These Scandi Girls for Feel-Good Outfits

The arrival of social distancing has wrought an unexpected change in the land of Instagram. Only six months ago, the platform was a conveyor belt of stripped-back ensembles, all in 50 shades of beige—give or take the odd pop of colour via an artfully placed citrus fruit. But now it seems as though fashion lovers are looking for a little more dopamine in their dressing. Enter Scandi girls.

While in the first few weeks of lockdown, loungewear was the name of the game, it seems as though the novelty of all things knitted has finally worn off. Escapism now comes in the form of colour, texture, clashing prints and, the most important accessory of all, a megawatt smile. The Scandi girls have it all. Don’t get me wrong. I am a regular worshipper at the altar of minimalism, and you’re much likelier to see me in a white tee and black trousers than a floor-length floral gown. Yet there’s something about the austere aesthetic that is simply not making my heart sing right now.

No, I might not be replicating their outfits to a T (or maybe give it a few weeks), but if fashion can’t act as our weird, wonderful and aspirational older sister, then what can? I’m just going enjoy soaking in all the eclectic goodness of the stylish lot below, and who knows, maybe I’ll start absorbing some of their colourful coolness via osmosis. A girl can dream.

Style Notes: There’s nothing that brings me more joy than a tasseled jacket.

Style Notes: I mean, it’s not the most practical outfit in the world, but boy is it fun.

Style Notes: Overloaded hair accessories = accessory bliss.

Style Notes: Liven up your fave jeans with a colour-clashing jumper and jacket.

Style Notes: A printed co-ord is ideal for chilling in the sun and is sure to put a smile on your face (glass of wine helps, too).

Style Notes: An ankle-grazing gown might be the opposite of comfy loungewear, but it’s also the opposite of boring.

Style Notes: Oversize, coloured bows offer an ’80s-inspired pop of personality to any outfit.

Style Notes: These pink shorts and printed blouse are a match made in extroverted style heaven.

Style Notes: An unashamedly pink suit feels less Barbie when rendered in an oversize fit.

Style Notes: Zebra print is an easy way to add some fun to your wardrobe.

Style Notes: A maxi dress and chunky trainers are a winning summer combo.

Style Notes: We’re taking notes for our next date night.

Style Notes: The sweater vest has become a Scandi-girl go-to, and it looks surprisingly chic layered over a tulle top.

Style Notes: Statement collars are a staple in Johanne’s wardrobe. Just add a striped knit.

Style Notes: You’d never think thatcolourful tights would work so well with open-toe sandals, but Johanne proves us wrong.

Style Notes: “Throw everything at it” is a common Scandi-girl style trope, and it’s everything we need right now.

Style Notes: Scarf as a top? Clearly it’s a yes from us.

Style Notes: This floral print is simply summertime perfection.

Style Notes: Okay, call off the search. I’ve just found the perfect midi dress.

Style Notes: Minimalist dress plus cowboy boots are a classic pairing that’ll never get old.
