I Can't Scroll Through Instagram Without Seeing This 2020 Trend

When it comes to fashion, some trends are blink-and-you’ll-miss-it subtle, while others become seemingly omnipresent overnight and then tend to follow you wherever you go. That is exactly what seems to have happened recently with Peter Pan collars.

While the style is not exactly new (Ganni’s instantly recognisable collar shirt was extremely popular last winter), there does seem to be a higher prominence of the style this autumn. From check dresses with frill-trim collars to button-down shirts with embroidered details and cardigans to boot, Peter Pan collars are appearing across any and every clothing item possible this season, spanning contemporary and high-street brands.

If we had to pinpoint it, we’d say Ganni should be credited for reigniting this almost-nostalgic love for Peter Pan collars. Though, there are several other brands that have also contributed to the fashion set’s current obsession with the look. La Veste, the brand co-founded by Spanish stylist Blanca Miró, released an extremely popular Peter Pan–collar shirt in check and patterned colourways this year, which certainly captured the attention of the style set, and Batsheva included several Peter Pan–collared dresses in its pre-fall collection.

Style Notes: The shirt that started it all. Here, Imani Randolph styles Ganni’s ever-popular shirt against a knit cardigan.

Style Notes: With a totally different take on the trend, Nnenna Echem styles a frill-collar top against one of 2020’s other major trends, tie-dye.

Style Notes: Rachael Clifton wears Ghost’s daisy-embroidered shirt alongside shorts for a simple summer outfit combination.

Style Notes: Lena Farl wears La Veste’s popular School Shirt. This style was seen on several influencers over the last few months.

Style Notes: Camille Charrière was also one of the influencers who embraced this Ganni signature style.

Style Notes: Always one to be ahead of the trends, our shopping editor Joy Montgomery styled a ruffle-collar blouse alongside a blazer for London Fashion Week back in February.
