I Have Simple Style and Live in Flats—These Are the Only Styles I Care About

A pair of trusty flats is a foundational aspect of many wardrobes because of the comfort and versatility factor. Many silhouettes also check the trend-forward box as well (cue ballet flats right now). One style setter we follow that essentially lives in flats with her more pared-down and simple approach to style is influencer Jen Andrews-Cater.

“Being a minimalist and a busy working mom means comfort is key. I never sacrifice my comfort for chic style, however. Long gone are the days of super high heels though—flats are a key piece in my wardrobe,” she said. On that note, Andrews-Cater is showcasing the specific flat silhouettes she cares about most right now to complete her chicest looks.

“I wear my two-toned Chanel ballet flats constantly. They are my go-to outfit ‘finisher.’ Recently, I got these incredibly soft silver metallic ballerinas from Essen the Label! As we move into spring, we will be seeing a lot of metallics and I will definitely be wearing these on repeat.”—Jen Andrews-Cater

Choose from an array of colours.

We spotted metallic all over fashion month.

The square toe is particularly good.

A very chic pair.

This colour won me over.

The minimalist silhouette is so elegant.

“Mary Janes are a newer addition to my flats collection. I love that they add a feminine touch to almost any outfit. I love styling them with maxi skirts (another huge trend we will be seeing a lot of moving into spring)! I recently added classic black patent leather ones from Jonak Paris to my closet and love how they look on their own or paired with socks.”—Andrews-Cater

These could easily be twice the price.

We always turn to Vagabond for great shoes.

The buckle detail adds a directional feel.

Le Monde Beryl has mastered the Mary Jane.

The Mary Jane ballet flat hybrid feels especially 2023.

“These are the most feminine to me out of all of my flats. I love that I can wear them with a knit dress or skirt and still feel elevated and pulled together! These are the next ones on my radar to add to my wardrobe mix for spring and summer.” — Andrews-Cater

I couldn’t believe these were high-street either.

The chunky straps add a Scandi twist.

Pair with wide-leg jeans, or your favourite LBD.

Simple and sleek.

These could easily pass for designer.

A pair I’d love to own.

“I have amassed a great collection of loafers through the years and wear them year-round. My Prada loafers are one of the best investment staples I ever made. Lately, I’ve been gravitating toward my new chocolate brown suede Dear Frances loafers. I’m really into chocolate brown and love wearing them with denim and an all-brown monochromatic look.”—Andrews-Cater

Add polish to any look with these loafers.

These are high on my wish list.

The Jordaan’s have become an iconic piece.

The chain adds to the overall elevated feel of this pair.

Well done, FP.

Add edge with this chunky pair.

Simply perfect.
