I Spent Over 10 Years Perfecting a Frizz-Free Hair Routine—These 15 Products Are My Secret

I’ve been using this leave-in conditioner from pattern for over five years and love what it does for my curls. Sometimes I like to layer it with the brand’s curl cream and gel. Other times, I’ll pair this product with a stronger hold gel (more on that below) if I’m going for a different look. It never fails to soften my curls while adding shine and definition. This is usually my step one after washing and detangling my hair.

I typically switch my Pattern cream and this 6-In-1 Styling Cream from Rizos Curls. Not only does this formula smell amazing but it also defines curls while reducing frizz, adding shine, sealing split ends, and providing heat protection. It has notes of yuzu, blood orange, mango, coconut water, amber, and vetiver.

If you’re on a budget, look no further than this Rose Water Smoothing Leave in Conditioner from TGIN. I had been using the regular leave-in for years, but once I tried the rose water scent, I was obsessed. The rose water reduces frizz and adds shine while the acai berry stimulates hair growth and locks in moisture.

Any time I want a soft hold without the frizz, I reach form the Nexxus Curl Define Climate Control Gel Cream, which offers a 72h humidity shield. This formula has great slippage, making it easy to comb through and distribute. A little goes a long way, meaning I never have to worry about causing buildup. It also never leaves my hair feeling crunchy or flaky, and it smells amazing.

Some gels cause shrinkage, and don’t get me wrong, sometimes that’s the look i’m going for. No shrinkage hate here! Still, there are other days when I want length, and that’s where this Aunt Jackie’s Flaxseed Don’t Shrink Curling Gel comes in to play. Depending on how much product you apply, this offers a medium-to-strong hold that lasts all day. The mix of vitamin E and flaxseeds tames frizz, adds shine, and promotes hair growth. Plus, it’s budget-friendly.

Another budget-friendly option with strong hold is the Eco Style Olive Oil Styling Gel. This has been a haircare staple for thousands, and with good reason. The olive oil-infused formula keeps hair soft and moisturized while also providing incredible hold that doesn’t budge. Personally, I love using this gel when I’m trying to achieve the perfect slick-back, and it never fails me.

Ask anyone who’s tried their fair share of wax sticks, and they’ll probably tell you how hard it can be to find something that provides hold without that sticky feeling. Luckily, there are options like the Oribe Supershine Smoothing Wax Styling Stick that conditions hair while keeping styles in place. It was a standout product in our 2026 Beauty Awards, and it’s been a staple in my routine since our testing period.

For a medium hold that works well for all hair types, try the got2b Glued Wax Stick. This is another one of my go-to’s for slick backs because it doesn’t feel sticky, and it keep my hair in place while reducing frizz and flyaways. The mix of shea butter, coconut oil, and castor oil adds shine and protects against humidity for up to 72 hours.

For curly or coily hair, I can’t recommend the Not Your Mother’s All Eyes on Me 3-In-1 Hair Wax Stick enough. This has a strong hold that keeps all of my stubborn fly aways down while providing shine. Unlike the other two options above, it’s on the thicker side, so I prefer using this when as wash day is around the corner.

If you don’t have a ton of time to do a hair mask, this option from Pantene might be perfect for you. All you need is five to seven minutes for less frizz and more shine. The Pro-V Melting Pearls in the formula dissolve upon contact to repair damage and strengthen hair. While I liked how this felt on my curly/coily hair, I think this formula works especially well for straight to wavy hair. It’s also color-safe!

I’ve been a fan of this Algae Renew Deep Conditioning Mask for years. I love that it can be applied to dry or wet hair and left on for 10 minutes before detangling and rinsing. For extra moisture, I like to leave my hair in a plastic cap and add a little bit of heat for about 20 minutes. The blend of aloe vera juice, cocoa, blue green algae, and mango butter locks in moisture to reduce frizz and breakage.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but you should be alternating between moisturizing and protein masks on a regular basis. For a strengthening option, me and my stylist love the Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask. It contains B vitamins, algae extract, and rosehip oil to maintain hydration, reduce frizz, protect the scalp, and improve hair texture.

While I haven’t tried this product myself, Who What Wear beauty editor Kaitlyn McLintock loves this formula as a post-shower treatment. This anti-frizz protector waterproofs hair and lasts between three to four shampoos. “Thanks to the newfound shine, my hair looked brighter and more vibrant, like I as fresh from a salon visit,” said McLintock in her full review.

Simply spray on clean, damp hair with a focus on the mid-lengths and ends. Then, air dry or blow dry before styling as usual.

When humidity is working against my hair, I need all the support I can get, which is why I keep this Dove Humidity Protect Micro Mist Flexible Hold Hairspray on deck. I’ll be the first to admit that I rarely find myself liking the smell of hairspray, but this scent is truly lovley.
