I Think These 3 Types of Shoes Always Look Amazing With Jeans

If you’ve read our spring summer 2021 trend report you’ll know that this year our jeans are going to get a little looser, and have a silhouette more like the jogging bottoms that many of us have been living in at home. Denim was a category that has been increasing in demand (Matchesfashion saw a 50% growth in jeans sales in 2020), however there has been a move away from skinny silhouettes to more relaxed, slouchy fits. We saw more denim in the main runway collections for spring summer 2021 than usual, with the likes of Chloé and Balenciaga showing baggy jeans with a high waistband and slouchy trouser leg.

You won’t struggle to find options to choose from either, as baggy jeans are now taking over new-in sections and you’ll find so many amazing secondhand options too. What can be a little tricky, however, is knowing what shoes to wear with them. We’re still not back in heels, and loafers or ballet pumps feel too dainty for this style of jeans, and so recommend going for a chunkier shoe that are in keeping with the proportions of the trouser leg. There are three types of shoes in particular that go amazingly with baggy jeans—keep scrolling to see why and shop our edit.

Chunky loafers have become hugely popular of late thanks to designers like Proenza Schouler and Burberry who have created the chunky shoes we dreamed of wearing to school in the ’90s. The general rule here is the thicker the sole, the better.

And next up, we have a very similar option to the style above—chunky, track sole boots. Whether you go for Dr Martens, a heavy Chelsea boot or a ‘fashion’ wellington, these all will look amazing with baggy jeans and will prove a practical choice for our many months of winter walks that lie ahead of us.

Now this isn’t a surprising choice, but trainers always look amazing with jeans. We particularly love how colourful, retro styles look with jeans with a looser fit.
