I Turn to This Unexpected Brand for All My Expensive-Looking Basics

It can sometimes get a little uninspiring searching for affordable clothing at the same old high street stores. Of course, we have our favourites we know we can always rely on, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to diversify once in a while. And as editors we take our responsibility for introducing you to lesser-known brands we come across quite seriously. Especially when those brands have nailed the trifecta of being affordable, stylish and sustainably conscious. Enter: Nobody’s Child.

If you’ve been reading Who What Wear UK for a while, you’ve probably heard us raving about the British brand before. We’re big fans of their versatile, throw-on dresses—and we’re not alone. So many celebs have been spotted in their pretty styles, from Rochelle Humes to Holly Willoughby and Sienna Miller.

Rochelle wore the understated Rosie Linen Midi Dress to present This Morning last week.

Pretty floral dresses might be the brand’s M.O., but after a recent scroll through the new-in section I discovered that’s not the only thing Nobody’s Child can do well. Actually, it was the minimalist, understated wardrobe staples that caught my eye this time, from chic suiting to simple slip skirts and monochrome linen dresses. These are expensive-looking basics at their finest, and the kind of buys I love to bolster my wardrobe with— especially since they can be worn across all seasons, and are often much more timeless than printed or trend-led items.

Keep scrolling, then, to see an edit of my favourite minimalist pieces from Nobody’s Child’s current new-in section. Perfect for wearing right now, and all the way into autumn/winter and next year too.

This is the best everyday suit I’ve seen in so long.

The trousers would also be great on their own.

The ruching really elevated this dress.

There’s only a few sizes left of this skirt, which is unsurprising since it looks so much more expensive than it is.

It’s not just a monochrome palette that looks expensive— chocolate brown is a great neutral addition.

This is a dress you’d get so much wear out of, since it pairs just as well with trainers as it does heels.

The perfect white shirt.

A timeless dress that would also work with boots in autumn.

This chic blazer went straight into my basket.

Knit vests are now a wardrobe staple.

The Alexa is Nobody’s Child’s best-selling style, and I love this neutral khaki version.

This is so easy to throw on.

Nobody’s Child also does great responsible denim.

A basic your wardrobe will thank you for.

These would make a great office-appropriate option.

The simple square-neck makes this feel more elevated than your average top.

An LBD you’ll be thankful for.

You could also layer a polo under this as the weather gets cooler.

How good does this look styled with chunky boots?

Shorts are the runaway 2022 hero trend.

I love these subtle cut-outs.

Wear this now and to events in your winter calendar.

A smart but still low-key trouser you would turn to again and again.
