I'm Head Over Heels for These 34 Spectacular Pieces This August

Avalon wears the Dôen Isolde dress

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been an avid list writer. I pen everything, from my wants and desires to daily pursuits and nonsensical rambles on my notes page. The same sentiment has trickled into my fashion buying process. For August, like most seasons I carry out an inventory or shopping guide. I access the gaps in my wardrobe, jot down my most coveted pieces and unearth clothes from storage, ahead of the upcoming season.

I’m a conscious shopper, which can be quite nuanced when writing about fashion. One of the perks of my job is accessing the comings and goings of trends. Although I’m fortunate to bear witness to some stunning releases, it’s made me even more discerning about new purchases. Some years ago, I made a vow that I’d only invest in pieces I know I’ll wear forever, so shopping is a careful, considered, and ruthless process of what I’m likely to wear in 5-10 years and beyond.

Not only is August my birthday month, but it’s also a special time of year as the junction signifies the melting point of the seasons. It’s where the weather is most pleasant, but autumn feels like it’s just on the horizon and Christmas is a quiet hum in the background.

Coming into August, accessory drops are hotter than ever.

My favourite pieces in August tend to be dresses, preferably with a puff sleeve, which has become an essential part of my uniform. Midi dresses are my most worn style throughout the year. Dôen in particular execute the whimsical cottagecore aesthetic, that best describes my style. However, I’ve also been intrigued by the new shapes available this season, as they have a timeless appeal—from bandeau silhouettes to sculpting shirred panel waists on dresses and extended lines.

A worthwhile mention is accessories and my have we been spoilt. For the first time in a while, I’m excited about the intriguing shapes and textures on offer. Organic-shaped jewels have taken preference, dented studs with dangling pearls are becoming highly sought-after and belts that were once lacklustre are now a star feature on outfits.

I’ve also fallen for the sunken hobo bag that was made famous in the early 2000s and the soft curvature that fits perfectly in the nook of the underarm. Oh, and slip-on mules for the comfort factor and of course, Parisian appeal.

Suffice to say, it seems August is my season in many ways than one. Here are 34 of the pieces that I feel most excited about ahead of August. If like me, you’re obsessed with girly styles use this as your very own shopping guide for August.

Dôen dresses have a special place in my heart. This newly released design is a whimsical shape in a broderie anglaise fabrication – cottagecore is very much alive.

I’m truly, madly, deeply in love with the detail on these Gucci slingback pumps. How can you not feel special with crystal embossed footwear? I’ve heard they’re comfortable, too.

To be honest, I’m in love with everything on Arkitaip this season but if I had to pick a favourite it would be this sage green beauty. I adore the gathered bust detail and wide exposed back. I have this in mind for my cousins’ upcoming nuptials. With the addition of an updo and gemstone mules, I think it could make one of my favourite occasion looks to date.

Tory Burch is a beautiful and underrated designer. This bag will be a chic addition to any outfit. The gold monogram is a sweet adornment that will match most of my jewels.

A shirt dress is a wardrobe staple but this isn’t just any old shirt dress. It has many desirable features, from the faint pinstripe to the obi-style belt to pull in the waist. I’m also a fan of buttonless shirt dresses as they feel less fussy.

Tiered shaping with puffball sleeves is one of my favourite silhouettes on dresses at the moment. This dress comes in two shades, this vibrant ochre and ecru.

I’m a magpie, so a fully embellished band is something I can get on board with.

You’ll only know how difficult it is to find a good belt when you’re on a frantic hunt for a good belt. This one exceeded my expectations. The sliding adjuster means you can customise your fit and it’s also available in three sizes.

I’m off to France soon so there’s no better place to road test these cocoa-hued Parisian-style slip-on.

It’ll soon be that time of year when florals get darker in preparation for winter. Until then, wear this with sandals and when it’s autumn, swap that for brown knee-high boots.

The tiniest monogrammed Celine in a classic shape and colourway.

One of my favourite dresses is back in a beige colourway.  I’ve worn mine home and abroad. It’s a piece I’ll keep forever and wear in a multitude of ways.

Tongoro is a new designer to know in 2022. They employ traditional Senegalese techniques to create their sweeping gowns.

With this seashell-adorned bracelet, you’ll never feel too far from the ocean.

I love simple pieces like this that can be worn throughout the year. Add knitwear during the winter and wear it as is when the weather is warm.

The details are outstanding – from the sleeves to the pintuck stitching and ruching – perfection.

Drop hoop earrings are part of my uniform. This double drop feature is even more striking than the typical single pearl style.

I found so many pre-loved gems on The Luxury Closet but this Hobo bag is by far my favourite. Thanks to the cyclical nature of trends, designer buys can be a lot more purse friendly.

This tiered number also comes in a vibrant ochre if you’re looking to make a colourful statement.

Baserange has got it so right, yet again. This earthy-toned colour always speaks to me.

Tuck this into jeans or tailored trousers, ruche the sleeves and unbutton the top two buttons.

My top two Tove wishlist items are the cult favourite Ceres dress and this year’s Lauryn Dress. Just look at the darling buttermilk colour, structured bodice and pleated busier – there are too many features to name. I’m in love.

Is it cashmere season yet? This oversized jumper by My cashmere is just the right amount of slouchy. I’m always drawn towards elevated loungewear, as it can be worn both inside and outdoors – perfect!

Maison Margiela’s iconic tabi toe split opinion but the flat variation with the added ribbon feature pulls on my heart strings. It’s a little daintier, that’s for sure.

I’m always looking for blouses with unique shaping. The drawstring feature means this can double up as a lightweight jacket.

If you’re a fan of Aquazzura’s fun-time heels you may like these. I’m an ocean girl, so I’ll never feel too far away with these seashell adornments.

A chic classic in 2022’s sought-after brown hue.

This burnt antique shade has been my favourite accessory colour for a few years now. I’d style this with mid-wash denim, a crisp white shirt and heeled slingbacks. Et voila!

Fil De Vie specialises in romantic frocks and intricate embroidery. This will be great for any upcoming summer holidays with tan accessories.

Admittedly top half dressing can sometimes feel uninspiring but this top rivals all the rest with not one but two key features.

Organic-shaped earrings are becoming increasingly popular. The floating pearls on a dented gold stud will elevate any outfit – day or night.

This sustainable brand with uniquely tailored jeans is high on my radar. Pieces are made with old discard to create their unique patchwork signature.

A linen skirt is a forever staple. I’ve been eyeing this one up for months and now it’s almost half price. It’s also available in a zesty lime.

Roger Vivier creates what I like to call the modern Cinderella shoe. Although, if I lost one of these, I would definitely go back running.
