I've Analysed Everything, and These 31 High-Street Buys Look the Most Expensive

How do you find expensive-looking summer buys on the high street? After working in fashion for quite some time, I have an instinct for determining what affordable pieces could pass off as designer. But there are definitely a few boxes that need ticking to ensure that they look as expensive as possible. The first thing I look at is the material. A non-man-made fibre is ideal. Cotton, lyocell and linen are materials I look to for that more luxe-looking sheen, especially during the warmer months. The next tip is the silhouette of the piece. Does it fit with current trends that have come straight off the 2023 runways? If so, I tend to think it looks more designer. That said, classic items such as blazers and shirt dresses in muted tones also tend to look richer.

While most of the items below are simple, elegant pieces that could easily be mistaken as being from much more luxe labels, there are a couple of bolder looks that I’ve included. The main reason is they remind me of brands that are more expensive and will make your outfit stand out. Keep scrolling for more.

I can’t believe this is from the high street.

No, it’s not Celine.

Honestly, if you told me these were designer, I would have believed you.

The pleating is so chic.

H&M always delivers on blazers.

This dream bag also comes in taupe.

Dome earrings are everywhere right now. Pick between trending silver or classic gold.

Keep an eye out for interesting design to get that expensive look, like this asymmetric cardigan.

Looking for affordable quiet-luxury? Massimo Dutti should be on your radar.

Dramatic earrings are an instant outfit elevator.

I’m a big fan of this whole look.

Certain necklines always look expensive.

Classic shirts are timeless.

We will never stop talking about this chic COS bag.

Any designer would be proud to have made this.

Chic with a capital ‘C’.

Add this pure linen blazer to any look for an expensive look.

Trust me, you need to see the back of this top.

A dress you can elevate with heels or give a casual spin with sandals.

How luxe is this entire look?

Give your black sandals a break in lieu of chic khaki.

Such a great set.

I’m obsessed with the cut and colour of this waistcoat.

This elegant skirt will be a versatile addition to any wardrobe.

These won’t stick around for long.

Love this? Just wait until you see the back.

All our editors agree—this is seriously chic.

A staple everyone should consider owning.

Tank top dresses are having a moment. Probably because they take little accessorising to be truly impactful.

In my opinion, broderie details always look expensive, as they give off a hand-finished vibe.
