Jaguars select Trevor Lawrence first overall in 2021 NFL Draft

The Jacksonville Jaguars have selected Trevor Lawrence first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Lawrence, the most highly touted college quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck, shone early and often during his collegiate tenure with Clemson.

In 2018, he started 11 of 15 games for the Tigers, en route to earning ACC Rookie of the Year honours while leading Clemson to a national title, becoming the first freshman quarterback to achieve the feat since Jamelle Holieway in 1985.

Lawrence and his Clemson teammates came up short in their bid to repeat as national champions in 2019, losing to LSU, but he still claimed first-team All-ACC honours and was a finalist for the Sullivan Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top amateur athlete, as well as the Heisman Trophy.

In Jacksonville, Lawrence will fill what has been a recurring void at quarterback for the Jaguars, who have sought to draft their long-term solution at the position in the first round three times since 2003.
