Kraken recall Wright, from AHL after Eberle suffers deep cut from skate blade

The Seattle Kraken have recalled forwards Shane Wright and Ryan Winterton from the Coachella Valley Firebirds, the team announced Wednesday.

Wright, the fourth-overall pick of the 2022 NHL Draft, has four goals and six points in seven games for AHL Coachella Valley.

Last season, after spending eight games with the Kraken and registering just two points, he was loaned to the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL, where he had 15 goals and 37 points in 20 games. He led the Spitfires to the playoffs, but returned to the AHL after losing in the first round.

He went on to score six points in eight regular-season games, adding nine more in 24 playoff games with the Firebirds.

The news comes as forward Jordan Eberle suffered a “deep” cut from a skate blade during practice.

“They’re doing an MRI to see if it got the tendon, so I don’t know enough yet,” Kraken GM Ron Francis told Geoff Baker of The Seattle Times. “It wasn’t gushing but it was a deep cut, so they’ve taken him to a hospital and they’re doing an MRI.

“I think we dodged a bullet,” Francis said. “But he’s going to be pretty sore tomorrow.”

Winterton, 20, was selected in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft, spending last season the London Knights before making the leap to the AHL. In seven games for Coachella Valley this season, Winterton has five points.
