Canada’s Milos Raonic punched his ticket to the third round of the National Bank Open with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Japan’s Taro Daniel Wednesday.
After the two held serve for the majority of the first set, Raonic broke Daniel leading 5-4 to take grab control of the match. The Canadian then captured an early break in the second set and held serve to claim the 6-3 victory.
Raonic will now face Mackenzie McDonald in the third round after the American upset World No. 7 Andrey Rublev Wednesday.
A wild-card entry at the NBO, Raonic hasn’t played in his hometown tournament since 2018.
He beat world No. 10-ranked Frances Tiafoe 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 in a thrilling opening-round match.
