New York Has Spoken—These 6 Trends Will Be Everywhere in 6 Months

New York has officially kicked off the four city tour that encompasses fashion month. All the new collections and innovations of spring/summer 2023 are beginning to be showcased, but before we head to London, Milan and finally Paris, trends in what we’ll be wearing in six months time have already begun to form.

As the first stop in the fashion week rotation, New York sets the tone for the month – and personally, I’m yet to be disappointed. Outfit spotting the show attendees is almost as satisfying and watching the shows themselves, and I’ve already found myself hunting through my wardrobe to re-create some of the best sidewalk styles.

Keep scrolling to see the six trends that will be everywhere in six months time.

Each season, we see one particular colour take hold of the fashion scene. After Bottega green and aperol orange that took over the last few seasons, 2023 could be the year of yellow. This divisive hue feels like a breath of fresh air that we could all do with, and it seems like the New York crowd is already reaching for this sunny shade.

Create a tonal look with a top and skirt in yellow shades.

Classic knits in bold shades are on the cards for 2022.

Just add a blazer for autumn.

Okay, they might not be new, but the unique necklines of these fashion week attendees really caught my eye. When we think of staple pieces we often stick to the norm – scoop, square, crew. It’s clear that there’s more power in a neckline than previously thought, so consider a new style when you next refresh your wardrobe.

One of the most exciting trends we saw on the sidewalk was sheer skirts. From lace to net, this daring trend can be styled with a slouchy tee or sleek tailoring, but it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. If you want a more modest option, try a crochet or knit iteration.

There’s a Carrie Bradshaw feel to this look, with a 2022 twist.

This trend is all about the styling – pair with tailored pieces to add a considered feel.

Knit styles aren’t totally sheer, but the crochet details add a peep of skin.

Handbags are proving to be more than just a functional accessory as they took centre stage for many outfits. Full black outfits served as backdrops to bold bags allowing the fashion set’s arm candy to fully standout.

Mixing textures makes this look really considered.

Match your sunglasses and shoes for an extra impact.

This trend is so easy to replicate. By now, we all know that denim jeans are a staple for any great wardrobe. So all you need is a denim shirt or jacket and – voila! Your street style inspired look is complete.

Break up your denim pairing with accessories.

Point in case: Oversized jacket + oversized jeans = pure perfection.

Mixing denim hues works so well.

The New York crowd definitely came to turn heads, and the rainbow of colours certainly caught my eye. Vibrant pinks, bold blues and every shade of green strode through the city, proving that a stand out jacket can make a big impact.

The matching shoes make this pink look even more powerful.

If you tend to opt for neutrals, its easy to style your current wardrobe with bold pops of colour.

This is how you make a skirt suit feel fresh for 2022.
