Fashion Month is, at its heart, a month-long exercise in anticipation. There are the collections, of course including the clothes that will dominate mood boards, red carpets, and wish lists in the seasons ahead. But there’s also the fashion happening on the streets. To find out the exact pieces and trends we can expect to see, I tapped Who What Wear’s fashion editors to find out what we’re actually packing for the upcoming season.
Rather than a single It look, the editor fashion month wardrobe is quite eclectic: royal purple makes a commanding appearance, pencil skirts bring a dose of sharp, old-school polish, and satin jackets add just the right amount of undone glamour. There are pieces that feel distinctly of-the-moment alongside wardrobe staples that have earned their permanent place in the rotation. The common thread? Every look strikes that elusive balance between editorial and effortless. They are clothes that photograph beautifully on the street but still make sense outside of the runway shows.
Ahead, take a look at what the WWW team will be wearing. From bold color and sleek silhouettes to glossy textures and clever layering, these are the pieces earning repeat wears, spontaneous compliments, and precious real estate in our editors’ closets.
For fashion month, I always feel my best when I reach for my wardrobe staples and style them in new ways. This season, I’ll be reaching for pieces like button-up shirts, denim, and tailored trousers and adding finishing the outfits with some key accessories, whether it’s a Polo Ralph Lauren belt, a leather bag, or a pair of diamond studs.
“In the past, I tried my hand at a lot of different aesthetic during a single fashion week, oscillating between opposing style diatribes with each passing day. This season, I’m pulling from some of the beloved pieces runway items already in my closet—my favorite croc-embossed midi skirt from Tory Burch FW24 and 3D floral flats from Prada FW23—and instead narrowing in on just one newer experimental trend: the cummerbund. It’s one that’s been calling my name all season, and the September shows feel like the right time to strike. I’m looking to reference the Celine menswear Spring 2027 collection that featured the tuxedo pieces dressed down for the everyday, and I just picked up this belt from Zara to test it out with.”
“This is my first New York Fashion Week not living in New York, and let’s just say, I didn’t appreciate it while it lasted nearly enough. Packing outfits ahead of time is very difficult, especially for a whim dresser like me. I usually have outfit ideas before the week starts, but they tend to change based on my mood, the weather, my energy levels, etc. All that said, I had to do a lot of extra planning for this season. My overall vibe is sort of mixed between bright colors (which I usually never wear, but was feeling inspired) and classic silhouettes with interesting fabrications that make them feel interesting instead of boring.
Highlights are the return of both my favorite Prada pink miniskirt and yellow midi skirt from the spring/summer 2022 collection, both of which I wore during Milan Fashion Week a few seasons ago. I’m switching up the styling, though, pairing the mini with a tailored blazer, also by Prada, that has a matching pink satin back detail. The midi is going with a teal-colored satin belted jacket that I got from Aflalo and have yet to wear out. So far, at least, I haven’t really bought new things for the shows, just trying to rework pieces I already owned, like a double-layer Sportmax skirt that I love and finally scored after months of searching on The RealReal, a calf-hair Tory Burch jacket, and a vintage gray Prada dress I bought at Shop the Story in Milan. We’ll see what actually gets worn and what stays in my suitcase. You never really know until the morning of with me.”
“In past seasons, I leaned heavily on trends and experimented a lot during fashion week—I thought of it as my time to try new things. Now I’m not considering wearing anything I couldn’t get at least a dozen wears out of. I want to wear what truly feels like me and helps me build a wardrobe filled with special pieces that will be useful during a moment like this. This is a strict program so you’ll want to see where I land. I’ll still push myself outside my comfort zone though. Expect some daring evening looks planned for cocktail hours and bold layering moments for runway shows. I’m also finally styling the capris that have been sitting in my closet for a few seasons, fashion week felt like the moment to commit. I haven’t landed on my hero piece yet, but stay tuned.”
“My outfits for fashion week this season stay true to how I dress on a regular day. This means classic silhouettes with modern details and balancing new pieces with vintage ones. Funny enough a lot of my looks include midi pencil skirts, which may have been intentional since the weather in NYC is very much still giving summer, and I’m not quite ready to fully switch to jeans and trousers just yet. Regarding colors, black, white, and beige are the througline, as always, but I will also be incorporating some of the color trends that were expecting to see a lot more of in the coming months, such as cherry red with a COS sweater and Tory Burch pumps, and royal purple with a vintage blazer I bought at the Milan flea market, along with a Khaite bag I purchased last season.”
