Raptors’ Scottie Barnes leaves Game 1 vs. 76ers with left ankle sprain

Toronto Raptors star rookie Scottie Barnes was forced to leave Saturday’s Game 1 against the Philadelphia 76ers with a left ankle sprain.

The play occurred early in the fourth quarter. As 76ers star Joel Embiid made a move around his defender — OG Anunoby — Barnes stepped in for a double-team. But at the same time, Embiid moved to the centre of the lane and stepped on Barnes’ left foot. Barnes was down in visible pain and had to be helped off the court.

Barnes — who was making his playoff debut — had 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists before his injury.

Earlier in the night, the Raptors lost Thaddeus Young to a sprained thumb. After the game, head coach Nick Nurse said both players had x-rays that game back clean and that both would be re-evaluated Sunday.

Game 2 of the series is Monday night.
