Senators’ Norris to return from shoulder injury tonight vs. Capitals

Ottawa Senators centre Josh Norris will make his season debut on Wednesday against the visiting Washington Capitals, coach D.J. Smith told reporters after the morning skate.

Norris missed all of training camp and the club’s first three games this season with a shoulder injury suffered last season.

The 24-year-old native of Oxford, Mich., played just eight games last season because of shoulder problems. He underwent surgery after playing his final game of last season in January.

The Senators have been short at centre, with Norris sidelined and Shane Pinto unsigned.

Norris signed an eight-year, $63.6-million extension with the club in the summer of 2022 after putting up 35 goals and 55 points in 66 games the previous season.

Norris has 54 goals and 39 assists for 93 points in 133 career games with the Senators.

Ottawa acquired Norris as part of the Erik Karlsson trade with the San Jose Sharks in 2018.

The Sharks selected Norris in the first round, 19th overall, in the 2017 NHL Draft.
