‘Still long way to go’: WHO records BIGGEST single-day increase in new Covid-19 cases

The World Health Organization has reported 106,000 new coronavirus infections worldwide – more than on any other day since the world first faced the dreaded disease – as Europe continues to lift quarantine restrictions.

Most European nations appear to be past the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic, as governments across the continent gradually lift restrictions imposed to stem the spread of the virus. Yet, globally the crisis is far from over, the WHO warns, with the pandemic seemingly only nearing its peak.

“We still have a long way to go in this pandemic,” the UN health agency’s Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a news conference, adding that as many as 106,000 new cases have been reported across the world. “We are very concerned about rising cases in low and middle income countries.”
