These Are Zara's Black Friday Pieces That Are Actually Worth Your Time

Back in 2018, Zara, quite unexpectedly, entered into the realm of the big Black Friday sale for the first time. Unlike many retailers that continue to do Black Friday for a fortnight, Zara’s sale was quite abruptly called Friday 23, and it offered 20% off selected items. It set a precedent that we had, up until that point, thought was impossible. This is a retailer that reluctantly goes into sale even at the most traditional times of the year, so it was weird and exciting that it took part in the Black Friday parade.

Since 2018, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become a far greater presence in the world of discounting and peak retail moments. And yes, although the occasion normally marks the moment your inbox is flooded with offers of half-price paddle boards, clothes steamers or air fryers, it is quite a good time to consider investment purchases of the wardrobe variety.

So what is Zara doing for Black Friday 2022? As usual, Zara’s shopping event is very short-lived, with the sale starting last night and most likely continuing for the weekend only in store and online. Last year the brand did also offer Cyber Monday reductions, so it’s worth checking back in then, too.

Zara has become increasingly premium over the years, and despite there still being a more affordable offering in stores and online, it is the most considered and elevated pieces that the team at Who What Wear are usually most interested in. We’re talking about the real-leather jackets, the more expensive handbags, the best wool coats and perfect-fit tailoring. When it comes to sensible sale shopping, it’s all about pinpointing classic, long-lasting items over trend-driven throwaway pieces. A neutral coat, great pair of jeans or oversized shirt, for example, could always be considered a wise purchase if the fabrics are good and the cut suits you.

Zara does a mean range of black ankle boots. This Western style feels right for now, but as an investment purchase, this is the kind of style that comes back into fashion time and again.

The whole Who What Wear team love this double faced jacket. Wear it over jeans or dresses for a cosy yet chic layer.

Is there anything more classic than a crisp white shirt?

I firmly believe leather leggings are a winter wardrobe staple. Wear yours with a chunky knit, blazer or oversized shirt.

This retro-look dress reminds me of a ’70s style I own (and love) that is now full of holes and falling apart.

Sometimes, the simpler the boot, the better.

This navy coat has such a Parisian feel about it don’t you think?

I love the chunkier weave of this gorgeous grey sweater.

This navy midi skirt has been all over my IG feed this month. Make it work for party season by adding barely-there heels and a blazer or dress it down with knitwear.

These knee-high boots have a shearling lining to keep your feet extra toasty.

Velvet flares for party season? Count me in!

A cream sweater looks so chic with leather trousers or denim. Add loafers, boots or trainers and you’re set.

A puffer coat is a great piece to invest in during sale period. You’ll reach for this longline style time and time again I’m sure.

A LBD will serve you well this winter.

A great blazer is always a wise purchase.

Tailored trousers + a black roll neck = a failsafe winter look.

I love the expensive-looking hue of these suede boots, as well as the cone heel.

I love the oversized collar and pocket detailing on this limited edition coat.

This stylish cross-body bag also comes in a chic burgundy shade.

This stunner of a coat is great for anyone who likes an oversized coat to layer knits under.

Opt for a size up in this wardrobe hero for that relaxed, off-duty look.

Zara’s mini flares are some of my favourite jeans. They’re slightly cropped, so if you’re not a fan of flashing any ankle, make sure you have some boots or socks to hand!

A cream blazer might not be at the forefront of your mind right now, but I guarantee this textured style will work hard for you year round.

I have these and can confirm they are the perfect heeled ankle boot.

Note the wraparound collar of this oversized coat.

Another winning blazer worth investing in.

Ok, these maybe aren’t the most practical purchase, but just think how grey they’ll look with jeans, a slip dress, a mini skirt… I could go on and on!
