This “Boring” Jumper Has to be My Most-Worn Item of 2022

This is a bold statement, but in my opinion, nothing is more useful in a wardrobe than the perfect striped jumper. Yes, you may feel like you’re cheating on your jeans by agreeing with me, but the power of a Breton is unparalleled—especially on those mornings where you find yourself staring at your wardrobe totally uninspired. Throw it on with your favourite denim or wide-leg trousers, over leggings, tucked into a mini skirt or tied around your shoulders. See! Versatile. However you choose to add it into your day-to-day outfits, one thing’s for sure: It always makes them look chicer.

The Breton has, of course, been a hero piece in the most stylish wardrobes for years and remains the linchpin of every French woman’s capsule collection. One of the key reasons they remain so timeless and popular is that you don’t necessarily need to spend hundreds for them to look expensive. Lucky for us, recently, there’s been a huge resurgence in striped jumpers across the high street and designer brands (like that Totême one), but there’s one in particular that I’ve personally been leaning on most days recently (and I know other Who What Wear editors have as well), and it comes in at £65.

Loved by editors and influencers alike, & Other Stories’ relaxed collared sweater was so popular when it was first released last year that it sold out instantly. But the minimalist style is back in stock (for now), and let me tell you it’s an investment your wardrobe will thank you for year after year. With a simple collar and V-neck, it works so well for transitioning into autumn, and then layered up with a roll neck under and a coat over it for winter.

Keep scrolling to shop it, as well as more of the best striped jumpers out there right now.

Opt for green stripes for something a little different.

If you’re looking to invest in the perfect striped knit, Toteme’s version is the ultimate style.

It comes in this opposite colour way as well.

A half-zip collar looks great under a blazer.

I can imagine this in winter with leggings and knee high boots.

This monochrome colourway is so classic.

I already know you’d wear this versatile version so much.

How cosy does this look?

This thin knit is perfect for layering under coats.

I love the layering tricks here.

I’d totally copy this styling and wear it with 70s-style patch pocket flares.

This could so easily pass for designer.

& Other Stories’ mock neck jumpers are an all-time best-seller.

I honestly can’t believe this luxe jumper is from H&M, and neither will your friends.

No doubt this new-in knit will be fast to sell out.
