Trending makeup products come and go, and I’d be a liar if I said I didn’t indulge in them now and again; however, there’s something about a simple and refined makeup routine that leaves me feeling polished and put-together every time. And whilst there seems to be a new TikTok-viral blush every other day, the honest truth is that not all blushers are created equal. Whilst I typically find powder formulas way too drying on my eczema-prone skin, cream and liquid blushes are often formulated with a white base, making my deeper skin tone appear ashy and washed out. However, recently, I’ve noticed one particular product go viral on social media, and believe me when I tell you it’s already earned a place in my cosmetics bag forever. Enter the cheek stain.
What Is a Cheek Stain?

A cheek stain is a sheer and watery but highly pigmented formula that gives your face a natural flush. Unlike traditional cream and powder formulas, it contains no white base pigment, allowing it to work for a wider range of skin tones without looking ashy.
Because it stains the skin, this product is well-loved for its staying power, with many lasting up to 12 hours after application. Most cheek stains can also be used on the lips, making it easy to create a cohesive makeup look and practical to take on holiday as a multi-use everyday staple.
What Are the Benefits of a Cheek Stain?

• Long-lasting – Because they stain the cheeks instead of simply sitting on top of the skin, cheek stains last longer throughout the day without the need to reapply.
• Smudge and transfer-proof – Because the formula sinks into the skin and dries down quickly, there is less chance of transfer onto clothes.
• Weightless – Unlike heavier cream or powder formulas, cheek stains feel undetectable on the skin, allowing for comfortable everyday wear.
• Buildable – Cheek stains can be sheered out if you prefer a more subtle look, or built up for a more dramatic effect.
• Multi-purpose – Cheek stains often double up as lip tints, allowing you to create a more cohesive look, as well as pack less with you for trips away from home.

The Best Cheek Stains, According to a Beauty Writer
1. By Terry Tea to Tan Lip & Cheek Stain
Best Overall Cheek Stain
Key ingredients: Bio-active cherry blossom extract, black tea complex, red tea complex, glycerin
Shade(s): Cherry-red
Finish: Dewy
If a “no-makeup” makeup look is your goal this summer, then look no further than By Terry’s Tea to Tan lip & cheek stain. Lightweight, buildable and easy to blend, this formula is perfect for those days when you want a low-effort, high-reward makeup routine. Formulated with bio-active cherry blossom extract to restore the skin’s hydration and red tea complex to revitalise dull, tired skin, this tint provides the cheeks with a natural-looking glow. Me personally? I’ll be taking this with me on my summer getaways to use on both my lips and cheeks as part of my streamlined beauty regimen.
Pros
- Easy to blend, natural-looking formula
Cons
- Very limited shade range
2. Victoria Beckham Beauty Colour Wash Blush Water Tint
Best Luxury Cheek Stain
Key ingredients: Mineralised sea water, coconut fruit water, terminalia ferdinandiana fruit extract
Shade(s): Flushed (red), Coral, Vintage Rose (berry-mauve)
Finish: Natural
If you’re a regular reader of Who What Wear UK, then you’ve most likely already heard us rave about Victoria Beckham’s colour wash tints. Infused with mineralised sea water to energise the skin, coconut fruit water to hydrate and an Australian superfruit extract to increase radiance, this tint leaves my face feeling moisturised and looking insanely luminous, something that I adore in summer. I’ve considered wearing a cheek tint alone without some sort of foundation or tinted moisturiser before; however, this product is so natural-looking that I’m very tempted to try it with this glowy formula. Retailing at £44, this is by no means an affordable cheek tint, but trust me when I say it’s well worth the extra splurge, with a little going a very long way.
Pros
- Buildable, natural-looking formula.
Cons
- More expensive than other cheek tints on the market
3. e.l.f. Cosmetics Sheer for It Blush Tint
Best Affordable Cheek Stain
Key ingredients: Hyaluronic acid, glycerin,
Shade(s): So Petal (light pink), Mauve Actually (mauve), Maple Latte (brown), Burgun-did That (burgundy), Pink Positive (bright pink), Orange Crush (orange), Plums Up (plum), Left on Red (bright red), Cherry Cola (black cherry)
Finish: Natural
It should come as no surprise that e.l.f has come out with another high-quality product, and the newest addition to the brand’s cheek collection has already earned itself a place in my everyday makeup bag. It’s ultra-pigmented, lasts all day, and not to mention that it has the biggest shade range for a cheek tint that I’ve personally ever seen. I also love that, unlike other tints I’ve tried, the formula is not too runny, giving me time to blend it into my cheeks without fear of staining or uneven application. I already own the shade Cherry Cola, but at £6, I can see at least 3 of the other 8 shades making their way onto my vanity very soon.
Pros
- Affordable formula with an extensive shade range
Cons
- Very watery consistency so you need to work quickly
4. Ere Perez Beetroot Cheek & Lip Tint
Best Cheek Stain for Dry Skin
Key ingredients: Beetroot extract, rosehip extract, blue agave nectar, vitamin E, glycerin
Shade(s): Fun (fuchsia pink), Joy (cherry red)
Finish: Dewy
If you have dry skin, I’m aware that cheek stains come with the fear of looking patchy or clinging to dry patches; however, Ere Perez’s beetroot tint will soon get you on the cheek stain hype. Formulated with beetroot to improve hydration, rosehip to nourish and blue agave nectar to revive dullness, this dewy product can be sheered out into a healthy-looking flush or built up on for a bold punch that won’t look cakey. I use the red shade, joy over my cheeks and lips for a cohesive makeup look, and I love the fact that this hydrating stain doesn’t cling to the dry patches on my lip, allowing my makeup to look airbrushed and seamless.
Pros
- Hydrating formula that won’t dry out the skin
Cons
- Very limited shade range
5. Benefit Benetint Lip and Cheek Stain
Best Cheek Stain for Oily Skin
Key ingredients: Water, glycerin, butylene glycol
Shade(s): Rose (red), Raspberry (berry-pink), Dark Cherry (burgundy-brown)
Finish: Natural
I was extremely late to the Benetint hype; however, this water-based cheek stain has not left my makeup bag since I tried it last year. As a true water tint, this blush has much more longevity than cream or powder formulas, making it the perfect pick for both full coverage and “no makeup” makeup days. The texture also allows it to apply more easily over other makeup products without disturbing the rest of your base. My only note would be that this product dries down very quickly, so you have to work much more quickly with it.
Pros
- Long-lasting, budge-proof formula
Cons
- Product dries down quickly, meaning there’s less time to blend into the skin
6. Milk Makeup Cooling Water Jelly Tint
Best High-Pigment Cheek Stain
Key ingredients: Vegan collagen, aloe vera, seawater, niacinamide, glycerin, sorbitol, agarose
Shade(s): Chill (red), Spritz (coral), Fizz (soft peach), Burst (bright pink), Splash (berry), Fresh (soft pink), pHreeze (pH pink)
Finish: Natural-luminous
Ever looked at a product online and had absolutely no idea how it works, but feel 100% certain that you needed to try it? Well, that was my exact experience when I saw Milk’s Cooling Water Jelly Tint on TikTok for the first time. Designed to add a wash of colour to the cheeks, you don’t need a lot of this product to achieve a high-pigment finish, and the cooling effect makes them feel so refreshing on the cheeks, so I already know that I’ll be taking these on the go this summer for a little pick-me-up throughout the warm-weather days.
Pros
- High-pigment formula and extensive shade range
Cons
- Product dries down quickly so can leave irregular patches if not blended immediately
7. Wonderskin Wonder Blading All-Day Blush Stain
Best Long-Lasting Cheek Stain
Key ingredients: Hyaluronic acid, peptide complex
Shade(s): Toasty (chestnut), Barely (rosy taupe), Flutter (reddish pink), Sundrop (peach), Whimsy (lilac), Falling (berry)
Finish: Natural
Cheek stains already come with a promise of lasting for a long time on your cheeks; however, if you want something that really, and I mean really, lasts all day, then Wonderskin’s new Wonder Blading All-Day Blush Stain will be your best friend. Available in six highly pigmented shades, a little bit of this formula goes a very long way. But don’t think because you’ve used a smaller amount of product that it won’t last as long. This has been my go-to blush for both of the heatwaves we’ve experienced here in the UK, and trust me when I say it does not budge, even through overly sweaty commutes to the office and balmy evenings out with friends.
Pros
- Long-lasting, pigmented finish
Cons
- Product dries down quickly, meaning there’s less time to blend into the skin
How I Tested
To bring you the best cheek stains, I evaluated each formula based on its ability to blend seamlessly into my skin, how long it lasts throughout the day, and how transfer-proof it is.
