This Under-£50 Trench Coat Is the Smartest Purchase You Could Make For Spring

We have a love-hate relationship with H&M on team WWWUK. We obviously love when we come across an affordable winning buy that looks like it could be designer sitting in their new-in section—and nowhere else on the high street does this so reliably. But we hate—okay, maybe hate is too strong a word, it’s more frustration—when other people manage to bag those buys before us, leaving us to find them all sold out. It’s a regular occurrence, because, as we know, when H&M does something great, it’s really great and the word spreads fast. And while we are, of course, advocates for responsible, thought-out purchases, when you see something you love on H&M’s site, it’s a well-known fact that you need to add it to basket pretty quickly to make it yours.

We see it as our job to get word of these hero H&M buys out to you as quickly as we can so you don’t miss out either—and so today we’re here to talk trench coats. H&M have given us a reason to look forward to spring during this very long January with a fresh drop of the capsule wardrobe staple this week—some of which have already flown out of stock (shock). But the newest, and probably most classic style, is luckily still available and it sits just under £50. Bargain.

The double-breasted trench coat is basically the perfect throw-on, everyday style, and we’ve searched long and hard over the years so you can trust us on that. It comes in three colours: A classic light beige, a rich darker beige (perfect for autumn) and a smart black. It’s 100% cotton, machine washable (!) and a regular fit, so we’d advise taking a size up if you’re looking for a more oversized vibe. Whichever colour you opt for, if you’ve been looking for a trench we’re 99% sure this is the smartest buy you could bag for spring (and beyond) given its timeless, versatile nature.

Style Notes: The light beige is such a classic choice.

Style Notes: This rusty beige is unique while still being timeless—and will look great in autumn especially.

Style Notes: Black trenches work particularly well over workwear, but they’re also just as versatile as beige for running weekend errands.
