Watch Live: Jets’ Kevin Cheveldayoff, Mark Chipman speak to media

Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff and owner Mark Chipman will speak to reporters about the GM’s role in the Chicago Blackhawks‘ sexual abuse scandal on Tuesday.

The press conference, originally scheduled for Monday, was pushed back a day with the Jets saying Chipman was dealing with a severe case of vertigo.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman opted not to hand out any punishment to Cheveldayoff after meeting with him last Friday in New York. Cheveldayoff was assistant GM of the Blackhawks in 2010 and attended a meeting on May 23, 2010, that was one of the focal points of an investigation concluded last week by Jenner & Block LLP.

The independent investigation looked into allegations of sexual assault made by a former player, Kyle Beach, against a former assistant coach, Brad Aldrich, during the club’s run to the 2010 Stanley Cup.

Bettman said in a press conference on Monday that Cheveldayoff was “such a minor player” in the incident and did not deserve discipline.

“(Cheveldayoff) thought it had been fully resolved by the people that he reported to,” Bettman said. “He was an assistant general manager with fairly limited responsibilities.”
