We're Only One Day Into 2022, But These Items Are Already Trending

We may not know a lot of things about what the year ahead will hold, but when it comes to what you’ll be wearing we’re pretty confident making some predictions. Yes, we’re only one day into 2022 but our day to day jobs here involve a lot of scrolling through social media, a lot of scrolling through street style and a lot of scrolling through the new season’s catwalks. That combination, as well as keeping up with the general chatter amongst editors and insiders, puts us in a rather good position for spotting trends early.

So, while the uncertainty of the upcoming months may send some of us into an anxious spiral (me? Never), we’re here to bring some sartorial comfort, and help guide you and your wardrobe into the new year confidently. We thought we’d start by reporting on the twelve most-wanted items in fashion right now. Some of these trending pieces are perfect for freshening up your wardrobe instantly, like Totême’s scarf jacket and Loewe’s shearling; and some are more about getting ahead of the crowds— like Hermès’ Chypre sandals (below) which we guarantee will be like gold dust come summer.

There’s no time to waste, then. Keep scrolling to see and shop the twelve items that are already trending for 2022…

Style Notes: Fashion insiders have been wearing Sir dresses for a while now, but the lace-trimmed Willa gown looks set to reach cult status in 2022. It usually sells out so be sure to snap up this restock fast.

Style Notes: Of course Nensi Dojaka’s stringy ‘naked’ tops had to make it onto this list. There’s been so much buzz around this brand since her first catwalk show in September but we predict 2022 will be the year we see everyone actually wearing it.

Style Notes: Searches for Thom Browne’s pleated skirts rose 36% during fashion month according to Lyst, thanks to the street style set. And with uniform and mini skirts huge trends for SS22 we can only imagine them becoming even more covetable.

Style Notes: Senior Editor of Who What Wear, Kristen Nichols, named these sparkly slingbacks as one of the next major designer It shoes. With the amount of attention they’ve been getting from the fashion crowd already, we have to agree they have the potential to be 2022’s hottest accessory.

Style Notes: Not all of the trending items for 2022 are from high end designers. Like so many influencers already, we haven’t been able to stop thinking about COS’s new three piece suit (the most perfect tailoring we’ve seen in a while) since it landed recently. It’s already selling like hot cakes so if you want the full look we’d suggest moving quickly.

Style Notes: With a whole host of celebrity fans, from Bella Hadid to Maisie Williams Coperni is set to be one of the buzziest brands of 2022. Its Swipe bag is proving to be the latest ‘in the know’ handbag already.

Style Notes: Shearling coats of all shapes and sizes have been popping up on the coolest girls’ feeds recently, but it was Loewe’s covetable tan version that first reminded us all how cosy and covetable shearling jackets can be.

Style Notes: We’re calling it: Hermès’ Chypre sandals will overtake Chanel’s dad sandals in 2022 as the most-wanted summer footwear in fashion circles.

Style Notes: Prada is the latest designer to jump on the raffia bag train. Its logo tote was seen on the arms of fashion girls towards the end of summer 2021, and for 2022 the brand plans to launch a whole array of woven styles in sunny pastel shades. Get ready to see them everywhere.

Style Notes: If any brand knows how to create a trending piece right now, it’s Totême. This cosy scarf jacket is the label’s latest cult item, hence why it’s sold out everywhere right now. Add it to your wishlist though, as we’re predicting restocks for 2022.

Style Notes:Thanks to pictures of Sarah Jessica Parker sporting Norma Kamali’s one-shoulder Diana dress on the set of ‘And Just Like That…, interest in the label that first launched in 1980 has peaked again. Plus, gathering is a huge trend for SS22 so the dress, which comes in lots of different colours, ticks plenty of boxes for the new year ahead.

Style Notes: We’ve been noticing bouclé jackets popping up all over our Instagram feeds again recently, ready for a serious comeback in 2022. If you’re hiding a vintage Chanel in your closet, it’s time to bring it back out. If not, this & Other Stories number is a pretty good high street stand in. The cream version has already sold out so keep an eye out for restocks, but the black is available (for now).
