X-rays negative for Blue Jays’ Manoah after taking comebacker off right elbow

Toronto Blue Jays ace Alek Manoah exited Friday’s game against the Detroit Tigers in the sixth inning after taking a hard grounder off his right elbow.

The Blue Jays said Manoah suffered a right elbow contusion. X-rays then came back negative.

The ball, hit by Jonathan Schoop, deflected to Blue Jays shortstop Santiago Espinal, who threw to first for the out.

After being visited by trainer Jose Ministral and manager John Schneider, Manoah was removed with Tim Mayza taking over.

The Blue Jays were trailing 4-2 when the All-Star exited, with the right-hander not being as sharp as usual in his 87-pitch outing.

Manoah is 11-4 with a 2.43 ERA this year.
