Rick Sanchez calls US midterms

Democrats are poised to win the House, setting up two years of political gridlock, the RT host predicts

The US is heading for two years of political gridlock as Democrats appear poised to seize control of the House of Representatives in Tuesday’s midterm elections, RT host Rick Sanchez has predicted.

President Donald Trump’s decision to launch a war against Iran earlier this year could cost Republicans their House majority, Sanchez said in an exclusive interview. However, he expects Democrats to fall short of securing enough power in Congress to force through their agenda.

“They [the Democrats]are going to win the House. I mean, that that’s kind of a foregone conclusion. I don’t think they’re going to come close in the Senate and they may win the Senate, but that’s not a done deal that they’re going to win the Senate,” Sanchez said.

Trump has already vowed to become “Mr. Veto” if Democrats prevail, suggesting he would block their legislation until the two sides reach agreements. Sanchez, however, sees little prospect of compromise.

“There’s not going to be any deals made,” he said. “The Democrats are not going to deal with him.”

Instead, Sanchez expects Democrats to pursue impeachment proceedings against Trump, although they would likely lack the two-thirds Senate majority needed to remove him from office.

“We’re talking about an ugly situation for the next two years in the United States where politics is essentially a standstill,” he warned.

Sanchez also linked Republican losses to growing public frustration with US support for Israel, particularly following the war against Iran. He argued that Americans are increasingly questioning the influence of the pro-Israel lobby and the billions of dollars Washington spends abroad while domestic problems remain unresolved.

“For the first time in my lifetime, the polling is that Americans want AIPAC [the American Israel Public Affairs Committee]out and they don’t want to send any more money to Israel,” he said.

According to Sanchez, public anger extends to funding for Ukraine, with voters increasingly demanding that taxpayer money be spent on healthcare, housing and infrastructure at home.

However, he questioned whether either major party would fundamentally change Washington’s foreign policy.

Sanchez also accused the US defense industry of wielding enormous political influence, claiming arms manufacturers have spent “tens of millions on both sides of the political spectrum” to protect their interests.

“Those guys are literally buying the politicians and making sure that they keep the war in Ukraine going,” he said, arguing that weapons producers stand to profit from prolonging and escalating conflicts.

RT will provide exclusive live coverage of the US midterms from the moment the last polls close, featuring Rick Sanchez in Moscow, Ben Swann in Miami, and Scottie Nell Hughes and John Kiriakou in Washington.
