The Best Summer Blazers Have This Simple Thing in Common

I keep seeing this blazer trend this summer—including in my reflection.

Outerwear migration is telling of the upcoming seasons and the outerwear of choice this summer is the blazer, more specifically in the linen fabrication. I’ve seen an influx of linen blazers—both high-street and high-end—funnel onto e-commerce and they look mighty appealing for the forecast we’ve been lent in the UK.

Many factors make linen blazers an apt outerwear choice for the current season. They’re feather-light, low maintenance and malleable (for sleeve-ruching in the heat). It’s the one time of year when creasing evokes a carefree charm, which is just as well, as ironing is a distant cry from the reality of pulling outfits on balmy mornings. The characteristic of linen also embodies the coastal grandma aesthetic we’ve all wanted to replicate in the past months.

If you’re stationed in the office and bound by a formal dress code, linen blazers are a godsend, as you can adhere to a conventional uniform with simple updates and swap-outs. The use of considered and breathable fibres will keep you cool during the day and you can extend the wear of a linen blazer post-work hours.

Linen suiting best shines in the summer, in or outside of the office. Easy switches like shorts instead of trousers prolong androgynous styles throughout the season. There’s something for the girly dressers among us, too, as linen blazers can supplement streamlined mini and maxi styles of clothing. The bold colourways of S/S 22 are infiltrating tailoring and viridescent tones are appearing on sites from Mango to Arket, so there’s no shortage of pigment either.

I’m fond of natural fabrics, so I appreciate the linen-rich compositions. But if you’re looking for something with more structure and/or lining, I’ve been thrilled to see linen and lyocell melds. It’s a more sustainable fabric option, and moisture-wicking—a win-win! Keep reading for some of the best linen blazers to see you through this summer and the summers beyond.

COS nailed the vintage-look men’s blazer.

The combination of linen and lyocell gives a slight sheen to this blazer.

A polished style that you can wear to events and beyond. Plus, it has a cotton lining. Dreamy!

A slouchy style has appeal for wearing over dresses.

Jigsaw’s latest releases look very premium! This blazer has a matching maxi skirt for those who prefer skirts and dresses to trousers.

Sage green is making its way to outwear to uplift traditionally neutral tailoring.

I’d expect nothing less than chic tailoring from French brand Maje.

The tortoiseshell buttons on pale linen is the subtlety I very much endorse.

An intricate herringbone design crafted by Irish Heritage weavers.

Like a linen variation of Arket’s famed Hopsack blazer. Best of all, it’s made entirely of biodegradable fibres.

A classic single-breasted silhouette in natural linen tones.

Although Matteau is predominately known for dress and co-ord offerings, this season they’ve shown that their outerwear is equally strong.

I’m so impressed with the composition and pricing of this blazer!

It’s only fitting that the colour of the season is gracing outerwear.

Wear with the matching trousers and platform sandals for a strong pared-back look.

Utilitarian designs add a casual element to tailoring. Plus, ample pockets are only ever a good thing.

The drawstring waist detail adds a relaxed touch. Add Regina Pyo’s Doris stone shorts and nip in the waist to fully embrace chic comfort.

The angular silhouette and lapels paired with the belted waist add complementary curvature to the design.

The rounded shoulders look very chic. Belt the middle for ’80s shaping.

An unlined blazer lends more fluidity to the shape. It’s also suitable for hotter climates.

An elegant design in a midweight fabric to see you through the cooler months.

The boxy fit is the perfect addition to an outfit consisting of shorter lengths. Add knee-high boots and a baguette bag and you’re evening-ready.

Buttery hues and organic materials appease my fashion inclinations. PS: This will be a beautiful colour to wear with navy.

Marina Rinaldi is one of my top 2022 fashion discoveries. The brand is paving the way for eco-conscious and well-crafted plus-size pieces, which are much needed in the fashion space.

A double-breasted heavyweight jacket with a healthy dose of linen.

Olive is a vibrant khaki variation that reflects this season’s trend forecast. Like khaki, I think it’s a staple addition.

Size up twice for an oversized fit.

The type of style you can throw on without so much as a second thought.

The warm-toned taupe will uplift the most basic of outfits.

Clean lines and a well-held silhouette.
